 The seat back is sheet metal and the base is made out of wood.

What is the best way to upholster the seats? Since a long trip is hard on the bottom, do you suggest foam or gel for the bottoms? Is the metal seat skins able to have padding on the arms so they can serve as armrests?
 Foam padding is the most common for the bucket seats. You can wrap the top edge of the seats in seat material and stuff it with padding like they did in the touring and roadsters. to give you a padded spot to put your arms.
